Gene Therapy for Hearing Loss

Hairs lose in the inner ear results in hearing loss.  If scientists are able to regenerate the sensory hair, people who are deaf will be able to hear again.  The sensory hair produces and electrical signal that responds to vibration in the inner ear.  Scientist found that using the gene Atoh1 and implanting that into the cochleae o young mice, the mice began to form extra sensory hair cells.  The next step in this hypothesis is to test it on humans.
