Scientists Trace Evolutionary History of What Mammals Eat

There are many different trackers of evolution such as homologous characteristics and DNA, but scientists have also started to look at eating trends to establish lineages.  According to researchers at National Science Foundation, “the research links dietary strategy, a basic aspect of animal ecology, with macroevolutionary diversification of mammals”.  After establishing different lineages in this way, they also made some observations that today’s omnivores have undergone the greatest change, whereas today’s herbivores and carnivores have stayed relatively stable.
