'Pink slime' in your meat? Labels to tell you, USDA says

Pink slime or lean finely textured beef (LFTB) or boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT), is a beef-based food additive which are added mostly to the ground beef. This compound is not completely safe since it is treated with ammonia gas in the producing process. In this article, it tells us that 700 million to 800 million pounds of LFTB are added to 10billion pounds of ground beef consumed in the U.S. each year. However; some research shows that LFTB is not unsafe to be consumed. Thus, U.S. Department of Agriculture has agreed to allow several meat producers to list it on the package labels.
