This is an interesting article about easing addiction by
“re-programing” the brain and its associations with the drug use. The videos are of others using the drugs,
which researchers hope will dampen their personal memories and associations
with using, “It’s more like a computer pulling up a document, potentially
editing the document, and then resaving the document.” By eliminating these personal associations,
it should be easier for individuals to quit the drug (since, for many, the
hardest part of quitting is the memories of specific dealers and situations
they used in). Also discussed are how
timing in the experiment is crucial for its success in aiding the patient.
