Methane coming from the Arctic Ocean

A scientist was flying over the Arctic Ocean and he noticed elevated levels of methane. This is the gas that is causing global warming to happen because of human activities. Oddly enough, this methane was coming from bacteria on the surface of the ocean that is known to emit methane. Normally, these bacteria cannot live in places with oxygen. Despite this, the ocean is filled with oxygen.
