Extreme Eaters Show Abnormal Brain Activity

In numerous previous studies no strong brain differences have been found between the underweight and the obese.  However, this new study has found differences in areas of the brain associated with rewarding feelings; "The hypothalamus, amygdala and hippocampus all showed lackluster responses to pictures of enticing food" in underweight patients.  The main differences were observed on the extremes of the spectrum, between those with Prader-Willi syndrome (insatiable hunger) and the anorexic.  However, seeing these differences might lead to understanding how weight is related to brain differences.
