Why are we More Hungry in the Winter?

Our drive to eat more in the winter may be a product of less sunlight — or more temptation around us.

According to this article and studies done at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, seasons affect appetite.  For humans, along with most other animals, our calorie intake increases as the temperature decreases.  According to the study, our calorie intake increases by about 200 calories per day once daylight savings time takes effect and it begins getting darker outside earlier.  Some researchers believe that this is because of our evolutionary history, when it was prudent to stock up on food for a long winter.
