Von Economo Neurons and Suicide

Von Economo neurons are neurons in the brain that are believed to deal with emotions like shame and other complicated social emotions. Individuals with psychiatric disorders who had committed suicide were found to have a tight concentration of von Economo neurons, whereas individuals with psychiatric disorders who had not committed suicide were found to have less dense concentrations of von Economo neurons.
