Scientists are now able to keep cancer/tumor cells alive in the lab for longer than ever before. One of the current difficulties with cancer research is that these cells tend to die relatively quickly in the lab. Keeping them alive for longer in the lab means that scientists could potentially test treatments on specific cancer cells before using the treatment on an individual.
