Babies without eyes

Scientists have identified the gene which causes anophthalmia, greek for no eyes. This disorder occurs in-utero and leaves the resulting child without eyes. Scientists have finally found the gene responsible for this disorder, one which the mothers possess. This discover allows for genetic testing to see if a couple is at risk for producing a child with anophthalmia. This will help prevent the disorder and may lead to treatments for developing fetuses who would otherwise be born without eyes.
