People who have used a tanning bed were 69% more likely to develop early-onset basal cell carcinoma than those who haven't. Research shows that 27% of cases of early onset disease, 43% of which occur in females, could be prevented if people simply stopped using tanning beds. Yet, studies say that the best way to warn young women to tan less was to tell them about the skin-wrinkling effects rather than the risk of cancer.
