Canadian researchers close in on vaccine for ovarian cancer
Canadian researchers think they are close to developing a new vaccine against ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is particularly deadly and severe, and until recently the standard treatment has been surgery followed by chemotherapy. Ovarian cancer is very hard to detect and is equally difficult to eliminate. The cancer has a habit of returning several years later in many patients. This new vaccine, which scientists believe will be ready for clinical trials in 3-5 years, would act as an addition to standard treatments, and is supposed to help the body recognize and attack cancer cells by creating personalized vaccines from patient to patient based on the DNA profile of their own tumor.
