Researchers at Syracuse University are working towards creating a stick of chewing gum that suppresses appetite. This is because people who are clinically obese are fighting serious illness because of their weight, so they have a legitimate reason to need to lose weight. There are already appetite-suppressing drugs on the market, but some of them can run the risk of serious side effects like high blood pressure or heart failure, so they are working on something that will be much safer. This is a great idea, but i'm curious if this will be a prescription gum because I can see this becoming something that people who just want an extra aid to shed a few pounds for swimsuit season will take advantage of.

Gumming Up Appetite to Treat Obesity
