For Black Females, Lack of Exercise Heightens Obesity Risk

Alexandria Johnson got involved with the Anderson Monarchs soccer team when her mother was looking for an affordable way to keep her active.

Studies have been done with the obesity pandemic in the US that reveal that about 30% of white females are obese, while almost 50% of black females are obese.  These staggering number start young, and researchers found that black teenage girls are the most likely to report getting little to no exercise within a week's time.  This makes the obesity set in at a younger age.  This could be caused by inner city schools, where a large part of the population grow up, not having the same resources for activities and recess.
