Can Genetic Research Improve the Globe-Trotting Turkey?

A new team of researchers in the United States, have been sequencing turkey genes to find traits in the original wild bird and see if they could be useful to the turkeys today. They have been experimenting with the broad breasted white turkey. The turkey today is far removed from the original wild bird used in Mexico and England hundreds of years ago. The benefit of the original, wild birds is that they are more resistant to toxins. This would result in less artificial and hormone injections to the bird. A more natural taste.
