Vitamin D is Important for Recovery
As we trudge through the harsh Minnesota winter, many become vitamin D deficient due to the severe lack of sunlight. Vitamin D is extremely important for our bodies, and we should seek other sources in order to stay healthy. A new study of 313 patients experiencing spinal fusion surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis showed that many were vitamin D deficient, and it hindered their recovery. One fourth of patients were severely deficient. Vitamin helps with calcium absorption, and an inadequate supply will hinder bone formation. This hinders recovery from bone injuries and other surgeries.
