Many surgical kits contain 100 items. Most of them are not used and are thrown away due to health regulations in the United States. Organizations such as Medshare and World Access Project try to obtain these items so that they can give it to 3rd world countries who do not have these materials and need them to save lives. More than 1,100 children in places like Uganda have been saved due to these surplus supplies and equipment. These equipment are carefully sorted out so that the reusable parts that are sent overseas are safe to be used. This is a good for the world because it reduces waste for the United States and supply resources to other countries that need them.
