Stem Cell Transplant Patients at Greater Risk for Long-Term Health Problems

Stem cell research has come along way since first being introduced, but this could be a major setback for this concept. This could also be used as  a reason why not to continue finding solutions to genetic disorders. Hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT, which is essentially a stem cell transplant) are finding that patients who received this transplant are having complications with this medical procedure. Studies in the past have only looked at short term prognosis and not really long term. This article shows how ten year survivors are doing due to the transplant with some surprising side effects.
