Starving Orangutans Might Help to Better Understand Obesity and Eating Disorders in Humans

Anthropologists study the diets of the Bornean orangutans in hopes to discover and understand the issues that face humans and our diets. The anthropologist, Erin Vogel, noted that only during certain times of high protein and caloric intakes will the orangutans put on weight and that only when this intake is restricted will they use the fat reserves. This is a condition that is seen to be similar to anorexia.  These animals are able to go through protein deficits but is inadequate for the amounts humans should have.
