New Eating Disorders
New studies indicate that most people suffering from eating disorders are not anorexic or bulimic; they are utilizing different eating techniques to stay skinny. One new disorder is the chew-and-spit method, where they eat meals normally, but with desserts like chocolate they chew them and then spit them out to "avoid the calories". Another disorder is called diabulimia, when people with type 1 diabetes don't take their insulin injections so the body uses their fat and muscle for energy. This causes rapid weight loss, but is extremely unhealthy and can be fatal. There are others, like night eating, when a person only eats at night and fasts during the day, and orthorexia, when a person essentially starves themselves by saying they are only eating organic foods.
