Like we discussed in class, weight loss surgery amongst morbidly obese teenagers is becoming an increasingly popular alternative when nothing else seems to be working. Most insurance companies though still do not cover this costly, usually around 20,000 dollar, surgery. In Texas, kids covered by Medicaid get this surgery covered by their insurance. Some companies specifically exclude covering bariatric surgery for anyone under 18. With the obesity pandemic, however, these companies might be forced to change their policy.
