Body Rebuilding: Researchers Regenerate Muscle Tissue in Mice
Researches at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in a joint effort with the private company CellThera, have successfully regenerated muscle tissue in test mice. The new procedure could open the door to successful treatment of severe muscle trauma patients. The process involves reverting adult muscle cells into a state similar to stem cells, then growing these "reprogrammed" cells on fibrin microthreads. Using these cells, the area of damaged muscle in the mice successfully regenerated to an impressive level of functionality.
