9 mutated genes indentified in leukemia patients

A study at Harvard Medical School collected DNA samples from the leukemia cells of 91 patients and compared them to normal cells. They found  five new genes that were not known to have established roles in the disease. The mutations were found primarily in patients with a poor cancer prognosis, meaning that if the specific gene were identified - doctors would be able to know which patients might not respond to traditional long-term chemotherapy.
