U.S. Will Not Finance New Research on Chimps

The National Institute of Health announced that all biomedical and behavioral research on chimpanzees are to be suspended. This announcement was made because they decided that chimps, as the closest human relatives, deserve "special consideration and respect." Also, they thought that most research on chimpanzees was unnecessary.
