Nitrogen pollution in the atmosphere appears to be fertilizing the rainforest, at least according to researchers at two Smithsonian research stations in the tropical rainforests. They've found that human actions, namely nitrogen pollution in the atmosphere has increase the rate at which the rainforests are growing, an ironic consequence of our actions. While by no means encouraging the pollution, the researchers have found that the forest is absorbing some of the pollution and helping to purify the air, arguing the increased forestry in such areas may help to combat air pollution.
