New Device Uses Gold Nanoparticles to Test for Lung Cancer

Due to the difference in metabolism of a person with lung cancer versus a person without lung cancer, the molecules that make up cancer patients' exhaled breath are different from a healthy person. Researchers at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and Technion University in Haifa, Israel have developed a new device that uses gold nanoparticles to trap those molecules. With this device, it can be determined if the lung is cancerous and what type of cell the cancer is.
