Researchers at USC confirmed the discovery of a new, cancer-causing virus. Cytomegalovirus, or CMV, is responsible for causing cancer in the salvitory glands. CMV joins a group of less than 10 viruses which are known to cause cancer. The discovery of this virus, and others like HPV, may lead to future vaccines and treatments for this and other kinds of cancer. The announcement was combined with a second - the virus is extremely common in humans and those with weak immune systems are susceptible to developing cancer from the virus.
