Irish Urged to Eat Less Meat

Ireland produces proportionately more methane from farm animals than all of the other European countries. Also, Ireland only has a .6% vegetarian population, showing that demand there is unfortunately high. An increase in vegetarianism would make a big difference in the methane emissions that the country gives off. However, Ireland also has the largest grassland per capita of any country in Europe, which does help absorb carbon. The biggest issue is that methane from livestock is 20 times more powerful at trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.
