Hippocampus and Memory

Scientists have found that the hippocampus may play a large role in human memory, a subject which has eluded medicalization for years. Researchers at VA Medical Center in San Diego report that the hippocampus plays a role in both the recollection of and processing of memories. It also seems to play a role in linking memories, creating familiarity bonds between recalled facts and situations. There's no evidence on whether or not the hippocampus creates memories or just helps recall them, but this discovery may lead to future discoveries in the treatment of memory disorders.
