The Deep-Sea Find That Changed Biology
A worm discovered in 1977 changed biology
forever. They grow up to 7 feet long without any obvious sources of light of
food in their deep sea habitat. These worms survive through a process called
chemosynthesis. The absorb hydrogen sulfide from ocean floor vents and bacteria
within the worm consume the chemical to create carbon compounds to feed the
worm.
