Boogaard's Reported Brain Injury Reignites Hockey Safety Debate

In light of Friday's lecture, I thought this article would be appropriate for those who are interested in learning more about this disease. CTE, also known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, was shown in Derek Boogaard's brain after they looked at his brain. Boogaard's position was an enforcer, protecting other players from the opposing team. Enforcers are known for getting into fights and getting blows to the face and head. CTE was the result of repeated concussions and fights on the ice. Because of the light that is shown on this issue, the NHL are debating their rules regarding fighting to protect their players.
