Anti-H.I.V. Trial in Africa Canceled Over Failure to Prevent Infection

A new treatment option to protect women in the form of a microbicide gel was canceled when reports came in that it was not working. Early trials with the gel seemed promising, but the last few trials they’ve done showed the gel did not work as promised. The allure of the gel is that it can still allow the woman to get pregnant, as well as do it secretly if they were afraid to ask a sexual partner to use a condom. The new gel was nicknamed  The Voice (for Vaginal and Oral Interventions to Control the Epidemic). Research is still going into this because they want to find out what part of it is not working and they still hope to put it on the market once it is changed and regulated through the necessary trials.
