92% of Increased Energy Expenditure from Obesity Caused by Increased Resting Metabolic Rate

Study measures the 24-hour energy expenditure (24-EE) and resting metabolic rate (RMR) of obese, moderately obese, and a control group in an air tight respiration chamber. The results showed that higher 24-EE and RMR are best related to the free fat mass. The study compares three levels of obesity and differences based on gender.
