Inca takeovers not usually hostile

The Incas, the ancient civilization in South America, were not known in history as peace lovers but rather as violent by Spanish history standards. Recent studies on 454 skeletons from various sites close the Incan capital reported few head wounds suggesting little violence and weapon use. Archaeologists have worked at refuting this myth of violence and anthropologist Valerie Andrushko of Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven says, “It appears that the Inca relied less on warfare to conquer other groups and more on political alliances, bloodless takeovers and ideological control tactics." While the picture above shows a head wound, skeletal evidence of Inca warfare is very rare according to this study.
