California is the first state to completely ban all minors from using tanning beds. Senator Ted Lieu says the 18-year-old limit is necessary because the type of radiation in tanning beds can lead to skin damage and melanoma. The indoor tanning association says up to 10% of its current customers are under the age of 18. The law will be effective everywhere in CA on January 1st 2012.
