New study suggests how toads might predict earthquakes

A scientist has found evidence that toads in ponds can sense an earthquake up to a few days before it will actually occur and evacuate the water. The reason as to why may be because the toads are able to feel changes in the pond water that precedes an earthquake. The “changes” are due to rocks coming under pressure beneath the surface of the earth. They let off charged particles that can rise to the earth's surface and impact things such as pond water. This is what is believed to cause the toads to evacuate from ponds in the days before an earthquake.
