Botanists discover remarkable night-flowering orchid

A new species of orchid was discovered and was found to be the only species of orchid to consistently flower at night. The flowers open shortly after dusk and remain open all night until sunrise; this occurs one night only. Scientists believe it is pollinated by nocturnal flies which are attracted to a scent the flower gives off, not detectable by humans. The reason as to why the orchid flowers only at night is still a mystery, and researchers say further field studies are required.
