Rather than consume alcohol through the mouth, teens have been soaking tampons with the substance and inserting them into vaginas/rectums. This method connects the alcohol directly to the bloodstream since absorption occurs quickly in those areas. Scientists say this is dangerous, because the stomach has a barrier, vomit, to prevent overconsumption of alcohol, and there is no such response in the vagina/rectum. This can lead to alcohol poisoning without the warning of throwing up.
