Sleep Hormone to Treat Insomnia

Melatonin is known as the 'sleep hormone' that is produced in the pineal gland in the absence of light stimulation. A team from the McGill University Health Centre revealed the key role that melatonin plays in deep sleep. This discovery led researchers to develop a drug called UCM765, which selectively activates the melatonin receptor, that can help to treat insomnia. Sleep is very important in the human body, as it has the ability to increase memory, boost metabolism and maintain a healthy blood pressure.
