HIV seems to escape the immune system because it is coated with in sugars that
does not seem to alarm the immune system. However, there is one
antibody that is actually able to bind to the virus and takes advantage of this
sugar coating. This can be viewed as possible opportunity to devolp an
vaccine for HIV. This antibody called PG9 disarms the virus by grabbing
hold of the sugar coating , allowing the immune system to attack it. Studies
have shown that those who have been vaccinated with this antibody are less likely to get AIDS.
