A 20 year-long study show that women who work rotating night shifts on top of their daily and evening shifts are at a higher risk for developing type two diabetes. Women who worked for 20 years with frequent night shifts had a 58% increase in risk of type 2 diabetes. Researchers say it could be due to a disruption in their biological clock which can increase levels of glucose and insulin resistance—both characteristics of type 2 diabetes.
