Scientists in Berlin have figured out the source of Naked Mole Rats' resistance to acid: "...a protein responsible for relaying messages about acid’s presence to the nervous system is easily blocked by the same positively charged hydrogen ions that lend substances acidity..."
Basically, the acid isn't registered by the nervous system and ends up acting like "a local anesthetic."
