When face with the question about deciding the fate between a group of people or a singular person in a train yard, 90% of those asked would save the 5 people at the sake of the 1 person. Michigan State University created a simulation for the question, complete with blood-chilling screams of the people as the train approaches. Participants in the study were hooked up to electrodes to measure their stress levels. The study found that the more emotionally responsive the participant was, the more likely they were to let the 5 die. The less emotionally responsive the participant, the more intellectually they thought, opting to save the 5 and kill the 1.
