The Food Chain in the Gulf
After BP oil spill, micro-organisms fed upon the oil-consuming bacteria. This bacterium was consumed by zooplankton, which is in the first trophic level. This oil material consumed by the bacteria and then zooplankton could have an effect on several other species because many fish, jellyfish, and whales consume zooplankton. It is unknown whether the toxins in oil are transferred up the trophic levels but these tests do show that other components of the oil could reach the higher food web. Although these results are not concrete, it does show that the oil has literally been consumed by the species of the water and quickly. This article was not biased. The article was just informing and not trying to persuade. The scientists admitted that there was some doubt in their studies and they weren’t trying to say they are absolutely right.http://www.enn.com/ecosystems/article/41980
