Europe Hopes to Reduce Air Traffic Emissions

The European Union plans on regulating gas emissions from airlines, beginning in the new year. Any flight that lands in or takes off from a European airport would have to be accounted for by an airline. Airlines would be regulated as other companies are under Europe's Emissions Trading System, which limits the amount they can pollute through a permit system. Air traffic currently makes up about 3% of global greenhouse emissions, so the legislation would attempt to reduce that as the industry grows.
