Research now shows that monarch butterflies have specific genes that allow them to sense the position of the sun and navigate. These butterflies are also known to have more microRNAs, and have more specific genes relating to social interactions during the winter months. Overall, there are twenty three million DNA units that make up the monarchs genome.
