Troubling future of internet search
This article talks about the potential search engine design and the implications it may have. Sites have collected data through our search histories before to try and work towards your interests (ie eBay offers items based on past searches and YouTube puts up recommended videos and users for you to check out.) However, this new algorithm will try to set groups and relations with what you search and establish them with other patterns that other people may have
What are the implications of this advancement? An employer could use information from Google and look for the patterns that could qualify or even potentially unqualify an applicant. A bank could look at your patterns and see they are related to others who have defaulted on loans and make you lose credibility. This sort of information security will not only be tested through internet search engines. The possible availability of full Genome scans in the future will provide questions of who should have access to that data. Should a health insurance provider be able to look at it, and then, is it right for them to change your rates based on what you MAY get based on your genes?
