There is a team of scientists that have been studying melatonin for a long time. They think they have synthesized a new drug (UCM765) that can actually cure insomnia, which is a disorder that is very prevalent in the USA. The drug works by repairing the melatonin receptors in the synapse, which is apparently where most of the damage is for insomniacs. Melatonin also has interesting effects on memory, cognition, mood. This drug has increased sleep cycle duration for the mice that it was given to. If this works, the effects will be well-needed.
