Thousands of birds died last week while migrating in southern Utah, when they mistook parking lots, football fields, and several other snow covered areas for bodies of water, and flew down to them. Volunteers helped to save around 3,000 birds, but it is still estimated that roughly 1,500 birds died in the incident. The reason the birds thought these areas were bodies of water were the storm clouds and city lights nearby.
