One researcher has constructed “cells” from a range of metal atoms mixed in saline solution. He calls them “inorganic chemical cells,” or iCHELLs. The function like real cells with a number of features such as selective membranes, bubbles within bubbles like organelles, the ability to photosynthesize and an ability to evolve. They don't use DNA but still have capabilities of self-replication. This new form of technology/metal-based life is still in its early stages but may change everything we think of as life.
